In Dennis, Massachusetts (and much of Cape Cod) English ivy has become a serious threat because it climbs tree trunks and can overwhelm the forest floor. The ivy eventually kills the trees leaving them vulnerable to wind and storms.

It’s unclear what’s being done (or what can be done) to prevent this invasive species from completely taking over. The brick tree, a potential futile effort, will survive the vines and memorialise the memory of all the trees that once surrounded it.
